The hamster races held on Friday March 5th were a great success.  There were 15 eager entrants and the competition was hot!  While some of the competitors were seasoned veterans, we had one dwarf hamster that had only just been adopted and hadn't even been named yet!  While "one" (name used for the purpose of the race) did not end up being the racing fiend that the new owner hoped, others that had been through rigorous training prior to the event did not disappoint.  The overall winner of the race was Houdini, a Syrian teddy bear hamster that is a retired breeder from Tails, and the oldest hamster in the race at 1.5 years.  She was a late entrant and her handler Michelle was thrilled to win a Crittertrail Treehouse cage and now has plans to get her own hamster for the next race.  The runner-up was a son & nephew to some of the other participants - a roan cream Syrian hamster owned & raced by Cameron.  They enjoyed choosing a wooden maze with the $25 gift certificate that was the 2nd place prize.  All contestants received a set of wooden dumb bells to ensure that their hamsters would be "pumped" for the next race.  Stay tuned for the next race date & the published photos and article as covered in the local newspaper, Snap!
